Species:
Snouted Cobra (Naja annulifera)

Classification: Dangerously Venomous

The Snouted Cobra is largely a moist and dry savannah inhabitant, but is also found in Lowveld and bushveld areas where it actively hunts its prey.

It feeds on rodents, birds, their eggs and toads, but is fond of eating snakes, including the Puff Adder. It is not an aggressive snake, but if cornered will stand its ground and form an impressive hood. It can exceed 2.5 m in length. It is usually different shades of brown, but a banded variety does occur.

The venom of this snake is both neurotoxic and cytotoxic and may cause some tissue damage. Polyvalent antivenom neutralises its venom, but bites are rare.

Repost @hirals_hive Hello Mr. Snouty aka the snouted cobra. These are one of the cutest cobras around but they can be quite feisty. These are non spitting cobras that have neurotoxic venom. Bites from these snakes are not all that common in South Africa but we shall see what the data reveals.
Repost @dr_du_preez -- One of the snouted cobra (Naja annulifera) hatchlings showing off. Incredible to think that these little worms will eventually grow to be one of the largest true cobras; potentially reaching nearly 3 metres in length, and sporting one of the most impressive hoods in the kingdom. They are very common in suburban areas, but despite a potent neurotoxic venom there are relatively few bites owing to the fact that, like most snakes, they’d rather just stay out of our way.

Snouted Cobra (Naja annulifera), dangerously venomous. 📸 @hirals_hive Unlike the Mozambique Spitting Cobra, this is a non-spitting snake and has neurotoxic venom. These guys will often hiss at you as a warming to stay away. ❤️ Tag someone who'd like to see this!
